Clear Robotics
Consultant
Freelance | Nov 2023 - Feb 2024
Resolved design issues related to the charging dock and conveyor system, streamlining their functionality.
Designed a smaller charging dock and a single motor for the docking mechanism, which significantly reduced complexity and improved efficiency.
I work with them on occasions to design parts and provide design consultancy.
Sparkmate
Product Engineer
Freelance | Aug 2023 - Nov 2023
Helped design and fabricate an innovative smart wine fridge which seamlessly integrates into modern kitchens, combining aesthetic appeal with user-friendly functionality. The fridge is energy efficient and features an automatic temperature adjustment system based on the type of wine being stored.
Kodifly
Project Engineer
Full Time | Jun 2023 - Aug 2023
Managed projects and help facilitate their successful completion by acting as a liaison between the engineers and the clients.
Kept extensive technical documentation of the work for both in-house tracking and status reports for clients.
Lifespans Limited
Biomedical Engineer
Full Time | Feb 2021 - Apr 2023
Designed and fabricated orthopedic implants and testing rigs for the medical devices.
Executed rigorous Mechanical and Bio-Mechanical tests to determine performance of the medical devices in accordance to FDA and ASTM standards. Most testing rigs are custom-designed for specific purposes. The tests were run using Universal Material Testing machines.
Aided the development of a simulator to model bone using proprietary methods on Abaqus. The data from the simulations are analyzed to optimize simulation results.
Worked with the Professors, Software Engineers, Simulation Engineers and Orthopedic Experts to develop a brand new simulator, Alfonso, to simulate properties of bone. I’ve also created several python and matlab scripts to optimize the workflow.
Lead and worked on simulation projects, using Alfonso, for several medical companies. It included (but was not limited to) the set up of 3D models, optimizing the material model for best results, in-depth analysis of the data and writing the project reports.
Ran Validation studies for biomechanical tests according to the ASTM standards and helped publish technical whitepapers.
Represented Lifespans as the project manager for customers that included R&D teams at Fortune 500 orthopaedic implant manufacturers.
Mechanical Engineer
Part Time | Oct 2020 - Jan 2021
Executed simulations of bone and implants using their proprietary methods on Abaqus. The data was analyzed to optimize the simulation software.
Nanopath - Spidfier Technologies
Lead Engineer
Full Time | Jun 2020 - Jan 2021
Developed the first prototype which was then used for fund-raising. The machine automated the process of extracting nucleic acid from fish samples which is then used for DNA analysis. The machine includes UArm (a robot with 3 degrees of freedom) along with other custom-made devices such as a liquid dispensing system (10µl precision), a pipette-detachment mechanism, a heater with precise temperature control (+-2C) and a modular cartridge to hold samples and reagents.
Spidfier is a lab-in-a-box capable of sequencing DNA from fish meat samples in under 30 minutes. The aim was to prevent the prevalent issue of fish being mislabeled and sold which causes millions in losses per year. The device will make fighting fish fraud cheaper, faster and a more efficient.
Open Ocean Camera
Design Consultant
Freelance | Jun 2020 - Jul 2020
Helped the core team design and manufacture a frame to encase the electronics. The goal was to make it more modular, user-friendly and easier to assemble.
Open Ocean Camera is an underwater camera for scientists and conservationists. The main goal is to make cutting edge tools accessible to marine science so that we can study out oceans better.
HKU, MaRS Lab
Research Assistant
Part Time | Apr 2020 - May 2020
Supervised by Dr. Zhang Fu. I worked on a drone project co-funded by DJI and HKU. My task was Data Acquisition from sensors using MATLAB to calibrate and log data from tests involving confidential bi-copter rotor designs.
HKU, Bionics and Control Lab
Research Assistant
Part Time | Aug 2018 - Nov 2019
Project Name: Vayu. Supervised by Dr. Zhang Wang
I worked with a team to make a bio-mimetic robotic fish. On February 2020 the team has set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the fastest bio-mimetic fish.
I had started off with data collection using IMUs. The fish moves forward while oscillating sideways about a certain point. I came up with a method to obtain the forward acceleration, yaw angle and center of rotation of the fish using 2 IMUs.
Later I became mostly involved with 3D Modeling, Design and Manufacture which encapsulated: Aerodynamics and Buoyancy-Weight distribution of the fish. We had designed the head and body of the fish such that it is aerodynamic and, has the proper buoyancy and weight distribution even while moving forward.
Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing
Design Specialist
Part Time | Apr 2019 - Sep 2019
Supervised by Dr. Kit Chui. The main goal was to develop a Maker-space (InnoWing) in HKU (by 2020) to provide a platform for all engineering students to work on hands-on projects and to innovate.
I worked on general management of tools, event management (MC for 1st Engineering Innoshow) and providing workshops for the usage of different machinery (e.g. Laser cutter, CNC machine, etc.).
Faculty of Education
Research Assistant
Part Time | Aug 2018 - Apr 2019
